Casuarina - A Green Interval Can Have You Great Benefits

Casuarina is a green plant from the Casuarinaceae family which belongs to the native Australia, the South-East Asia, the Indian Subcontinent and islands of the western Pacific Ocean. In this plant there 17 species are originated. In early times it was considered as the only genus in the species family but later it found to be split into other three genera. The Casuarina - A green interval are evergreen shrubs. They also grow as trees up to 35 m. The Casuarina are having slender, they are consisting more branches which are green to grey-green twigs that have very small leaves wrapping about 5-20 small leaves. The Casuarina produces flowers that are small and have simple spikes. The some species in Casuarina are dioecious and other is monoecious. The fruit produced are woody which are oval-shaped consisting of many carpels with single seed and a small wing.
The botanical or generic name of Casuarina is MALAY. It means the similarity between the feather of the bird and plant’s foliage. The moths feed on the Casuarina species. Other species that uses it as food are Endoclita malabaricus. The noctuid turnip moth also uses Casuarina as their food. The Casuarina is also available in other species such as Cristata, Cunninghamiana, equisetifolia, obesa, grandis, oligodon and pauper. The Casuarina tree consists of delicate branches with no more scales. This tree appears as coniferous. The Casuarina is widely spread, though if they are not planted agriculturally. Some species are found in common tropical seashore.
This species are known as common ironwood, pine, bull oak, beefwood- this species are planted as the wind break. As the wood is not catching fire they are used in fencing and as shingles. Some species are planted in New Guinea. The wood of this plant are used for building timber furniture. The excellent firewood tools are made from this species. The root nodules of this species fix nitrogen. This species increases soil fertility. The resin from the Casuarina is edible and thus used as food in Aboriginal people. The people in Bermuda region especially the gardeners uses all parts of Casuarina tree. The Casuarina tree helps in reducing the soil pH in Bermuda region. This reducing of pH level in soil helps in making soil more acidic. This further increases growth of acidic bearing plants such as blackberries, blueberries, azaleas, rhododendrons. These plants are also found in Florida and New Zealand.
The equisetifolia species is found in Hawaiian Islands. This species can grow both in dry region as wells salty seashore. They can also survive in the calcareous soil and on the hilly region with the volcanic soils. These plants grow well on sandy slopes also. The Casuarina can erode their cliffs by digging their deep roots and then splitting it into parts. Casuarina - A green interval is considered as the because of its properties. The Casuarina plants are also rich in medicinal properties, as they are considered in allopathic medicine branch as it has its own importance.
